Inclusion of GCC in Analytical Solutions of Service Life Models for Concrete

2010
Mathematical models developed to predict service life of concrete structures are used to simulate the transport of aggressive agents within the concrete matrix given that such agents produce depassivation and corrosion of reinforcement steel, both phenomena being the main cause of failure and collapse of concrete durability. These models have evolved in a parallel fashion to advances in materials and technology of the construction industry, and as a result now take into account a greater number of variables relative to initial models. Nonetheless, one factor which has recently been proven to affect concrete structures and has been overlooked in the literature is Global Climate Change (GCC), which not only affects structures at the macroscopic level but also at molecular level. The goal of this study was to present a mathematical model to predict the service life of concrete structures which takes into account the effects of GCC.
