O acervo do Instituto Federal do Piauí – Campus Teresina Central: possibilidades de arquivamento da memória institucional

This study focuses on the constitution of a space dedicated to archive and preserve the memory of a centenary educational institution. It aims atreflecting on the implementation of a memorial dedicated to the Federal Institute of Piaui, Teresina Central Campus, which comprehends technicaleducation, technological undergraduate courses, graduation courses, bachelor’s degrees, lato sensu specialization courses and stricto sensu post-graduation courses. In a History of Education perspective, this paper sought to discuss this process in a public institution and to understandthe potentialities of a memory place, according to Pierre Nora (1993). The questions and appraisals within this aim of gathering the collection relate to Cultural History concepts, mobilizing ideas from Jacques Le Goff and Peter Burke, considering materials such as hemerographic and oral sources,school objects and institutional documents. The discussion begins with an introduction, showing the experience involved with the creation of a memory unit in a superior, technical, and technological educational institution. Afterwards, the process of creation related to this space, and some matters involving its challenges, its accomplishments and its intentionalities are approached. The second topic approaches the limits and potentialities of this investment on research, along with its tensions and intentions. In the final remarks, the article shows that the first steps towards the construction of the memorial have been taken; however, there are operational and administrative measures that depend on political will, budget and sensibility from the Campus’ management to designate a devoted team to accomplish the objectives.
