Single crystal Raman spectra of magnesium and zinc perchlorate hexahydrates

Raman spectra of Mg(ClO4)2·6H2O and Zn(ClO4)2·6H2O single crystals have been recorded in the region 4000–20 cm−1 using an Ar+ laser as a source of excitation. The polarization behaviour of the Raman lines under different crystal orientations is reported. It is shown that the water molecules lie almost in a plane perpendicular to the crystal c-axis.
