Silver-Polymer-Carbon Composite Air Electrodes for Metal-Air Batteries

2010
Metal air batteries can provide significant energy density improvements over other primary batteries as the oxidizer (oxygen) is captured from ambient air and does not need to be incorporated into the battery structure. The use of various catalysts to improve the oxygen reduction activity of the air electrode has been a subject of recent research interest. Silver has been previously demonstrated to have good oxygen reduction activity. Preparation, characterization, and electrochemical activity of a novel composite electrode containing silver catalyst is described here.
