Thyroid and Bone

2020
Abstract Thyroid hormone (TH) has key roles in bone development and metabolism. There is evidence that TH regulates skeletal development and bone metabolism via direct and indirect mechanisms. The presence of all the factors necessary for local actions of TH in the skeleton suggests that direct mechanisms are relevant, not only during development but also in the adulthood. This chapter reviews progress made on understanding the effects of TH on bone development and metabolism.
