High strength-ductility Co23Cr23Ni23Mn31 medium-entropy alloy achieved via defect engineering

2020
Abstract We employed ‘defect engineering’ to achieve high strength-ductility in a new Co23Cr23Ni23Mn31 medium-entropy alloy. Using rolling and annealing, various defects were introduced, including nanoparticles, dislocations, stacking faults, nanotwins, Lomer-Cottrell locks, h.c.p lamellaes and amorphous bands. Engineering these defects facilitated to tailor mechanical response at different temperatures (i.e. 77 K and 298 K).
