Controversia entre madurez lectora y enseñanza precoz de la lectura: revisión histórica y propuestas actuales

El trabajo, en un primer momento, plantea una revision historica del concepto “madurez lectora”. Se establecen cuatro etapas diferenciadas hasta llegar a la actual concepcion, en la que se considera fundamental para la adquisicion exitosa de la lectura el desarrollo de una serie de habilidades previas. Posteriormente se delimitan las habilidades cuyo correcto desarrollo pueden favorecer la adquisicion de la lectura y se realiza una reflexion sobre cual es el momento idoneo para empezar con su ensenanza. Por ultimo, se presenta la Bateria de Inicio a la Lectura (BIL 3-6), que recoge dichas habilidades y que esta disenada con el fin de averiguar si los ninos estan realmente preparados para este aprendizaje, permitiendo ademas determinar las areas en las que seria necesario intervenir para prevenir posibles dificultades lectoras. El trabajo, aunque se centra en las variables individuales, no deja de tener en cuenta la importancia del contexto social. This work, at first, presents a historical review of the concept of “reading readiness.” Four distinct stages are established in order to reach the current definition of the term. In this approach the development of a series of prerequisite skills is deemed essential to the successful acquisition of reading. Next, the skills which can facilitate the correct acquisition of reading are defined, with further reflection on which is the right time to start teaching reading. Finally, the Reading-Readiness Battery (Bateria de Inicio a la Lectura, BIL 3-6) is presented. This battery includes these skills and is designed to help to determine when children are really ready for this learning situation. Moreover, it also allows to detect areas where it would be possible to work to prevent reading difficulties. This study focuses the individual variables but without forgetting the importance of social context.
