The Effects of Pb Pollution on Physiological and Biochemical Characters of Vetiver Grass and Liriope

2010
The effects of Lead pollution on leaf peroxidase(Peroxidase,POD),superoxide dismutase(Superoxide Dismutase,SOD),MDA(Malondialdehyde,MDA)and chlorophyll content have been discussed by Lead Stressed expriments on Vetiver Grass and Liriope,in which the Lead concentration was 0 mg/L,250 mg/L,500 mg/L,750 mg/L,1 000 mg/L.The results showed that,As the stress concentration of Pb gradually increased within 0-1 000mg/L,the POD activity of two plants presented first increase and then decrease, and reached maximum when the Pb concentration was 500mg/L.The SOD activity of Liriope decreased significantly, but the SOD activity of Vetiver Grass presented first increase and then decrease, and the inflection point appeared in 250mg/L.The MDA concentration of Liriope increased, and the MDA concentration of Vetiver Grass presented first increase and then decrease. For the chlorophyll content, there was a clear downward trend of Liriope, the chlorophyll content of Vetiver Grass presented first increase and then decrease. With a comparative analysis,Vetiver Grass has higher resistance of Pb pollution. Its Physiological and biochemical mechanisms may relate to plants' adjustments of POD and SOD activities.
