Bonding Strength and Wear Behavior of Titanium Nitride Films Deposited on Aluminum Alloy Substrate by Multi-Arc Ion Plating
2014
Multi-arc ion plating technique was adopted to prepare TiN film on the surface of LY12 aluminum alloy. The structure of as-prepared TiN film was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, and its interface morphology was examined with a scanning electron microscope.Furthermore, single point scratch test and friciton and wear test were conducted to examine the bonding strength of as- prepared TiN film to Al alloy substrate as well as its wear behavior and wear mechanism. Results indicated that asprepared TiN film had a thickness of over 6 μm,and the film-substrate adhesion force was about 41.29 N.Besides,TiN film was able to significantly improve the wear resistance of LY12 Al alloy, and its wear mechanism gradually varied from adhesion wear to abrasive wear with increasing load.
