Preparation and Characterization of the Electrochemical Polymerization of Urushiol

By the method of electrochemical technique and under c ontrolled condit ions, the urushiol oxidized into electropolyurushiol(EPU) film. The film of EPU can be prepared in Na 2SO 4 ethanol and aqueous mixed solution on Pt or stain less steel electrode by constant potential. In constant potential, the electrode pot e ntial could not be lower than 0.680V or 1.200V(vs.SCE) with Pt or stainless stee l as working electrode. These EPU membranes were characterized by FT-IR, D TA -TG, and the structure of EPU membrane was determinate. The results showed tha t, the process of electropolymerization in the urushiol electrolysis solution last ed 50 minutes with a stable voltage of 1.600 V in the cell. Some double bonds of t he long side-chain alkyl of urushiol had taken part in the electrochemical poly merization reaction.
