An experimental investigation of crude glycerol into useful products by using IC engine in dual fuel mode

2021
Abstract Glycerol (propane-1, 2, 3-triol) has been the target of renovated interest in nowadays. The production of biodiesel from transesterification of renewable biological sources like vegetable oils and fat oils yields a substantial amount of glycerol. The objective of this project is to evaluate the possibility of using syngas produced from glycerol to operate an internal combustion engine in dual fuel mode. A pyrolysis reactor is used in this work to produce syngas. Emission and performance characteristic of a diesel engine operated with diesel and syngas in dual fuel mode was evaluated. The experiment found that the fuel consumption in diesel and dual-fuel mode is decreased and emission of HC and CO decreased with an increase in load and also NOX emission was decreased.
