Telerilevamento satellitare e vulnerabilità climatica di Roma.

2016
Satellite remote sensing and climate vulnerability of Rome. Due to the soil sealing and urban infrastructures concentra on, densely built up areas of the towns with a low percentage of green vegeta on, are more vulnerable to heat waves (HW) which are increasing in terms of frequency and intensity due to ongoing climate change (CC). Their negative effects may combine with those of the UHI (Urban Heat Island), local phenomenon that frequently determines air temperatures in the core of the city higher than those in the surrounding rural areas, with significant impact on the quality of urban environment and energy consumption. In this context, this work aimed at designing and developing methods based on satellite remote sensing (EO) at medium-high resolution and GIS (Geographical Informa on Systems) techniques for the extensive characterization of the urban fabric response to these clima c aspects related to the temperature within the general framework of the support to the local and national activities and policies of sustain- ability and adaptation to CC.
