Melanoma Resembling Blue Nevus

2014
This type of melanoma is entirely or mostly composed of dendritic (or round) melanocytes surrounded by melanophages. Such features make this form of melanoma morphologically similar to the cellular form of blue nevus with which it can be confused. This “blue nevus-like” melanoma has been referred to by many authors as “malignant blue nevus”, a confusing term that should be discarded. We separate these melanomas from those arising in a blue nevus (see chapter 39).
