Sensory Nerve Terminations in the Oral Tissues of Some Pongidae
1973
Sensory nerve terminations in the oral tissues of Symphalangus syndactylus and Pongo pygmaeus have been described and compared with those of tree shrew, slow loris, macaque and gibbon. In Pongo pygmaeus the endings were moderately positive for specific cholinesterase, strongly positive for non-specific cholinesterase and negative for alkaline phosphatase.
