Nephrogenic Adenoma of the Prostatic Urethra

Through this observation, we propose to study the clinicopathological characteristics and identify pathogenic hypotheses of this rare entity. We report a case of a nephrogenic adenoma of the prostatic urethra. A 57 year old man with no medical history consulted for uretrorragia outside urination. There is no history of urinary frequency or dysuria. Physical examination was normal. Rectal examination showed a small prostate. The urinalysis was negative. The PSA was 0.82 ng / ml. Syphilis serology was negative. The bladder, prostate and testicular ultrasound were normal. Urethroscopy objectified a small millimetric bullous lesion at the verumontanum which was removed entirely. Cystoscopy was also normal. Histological examination showed organoid proliferation of a few tubular structures of variable size, square dilated and lined by a single layer of regular basal clear cells. This lesion was well limited by a regular urothelium. The diagnosis of nephrogenic adenoma (NA) was therefore retained. NA is a benign lesion. No malignant transformation has never been reported. The differential diagnosis of this lesion arises with several malignant lesions of the urothelium in particular renal cell carcinoma and prostatic adenocarcinoma. The pathogenesis of this lesion remains unclear. However, currently heterotopic origin is the most accepted.
