An essay about the freedom and liberty of university : A comparative and darwinian lessons from birth and growth of European and Asian-Korean universities

This article is about the birth with its freedom and liberty of the university. The proposition taken here is that a university cannot exist without its freedom and liberty which is the given condition of life and its individuality. Darwinism in this paper has been employed as the problematics of explaining the specific conditions under which European medieval universities began to evolve into the new species distinct clearly from the traditional form of higher learning, while there were not similar happenings in Asia. Those basic elements of the European model of university have been proposed to be governing body of freedom, curriculum of science, and instructional tools of printed books and world language. Based on this understanding, Asian-Korean universities are found to be carrying out now the developmental stages that any individual entity like European university had gone through.
