Efficient sono-photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue using nickel molybdate nanosheets under diffused sunlight

2017
Abstract The present study reported here introduces hydrothermally synthesized β-NiMoO 4 nanosheets as sono-photocatalysts for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye under diffused sunlight. The as-synthesized β-NiMoO 4 nanosheets showed ∼98% sono-photocatalytic adsorption and degradation of methylene blue under the diffused sunlight in 150 min. The photocatalytic performance of β-NiMoO 4 nanosheets has been scrutinized experimentally and the results have been thoroughly compared with the recent reports having relevancy to the wider literature. It has been inferred that, the planar structure along with the presence of nickel, accelerates the electron transfer processes and also the generation of free radicals under diffused sunlight. In addition, the synergic effect of ultrasound with light has further enhanced the dye degradation efficiency of β-NiMoO 4 nanosheets, a promising material for photocatalytic applications.
