ULTRASONIC CHARACTERISTIC OF THE Al_2O_(3f)/Al COMPOSITES

1998
The velocities of Iongitudinal and shear waves and the mean densities of three kinds of short fibre alumina (Al2O3) reinforced aluminum composites (Vf=5.4, 9.1 and 13.6%) were measured, from which the elastic moduli and the shear moduli were computed. The results show that the longitudinal velocities decrease and the shear velocities increase with the K increasing. Compare with pure aluminium, both of the shear moduli and the Young's moduli increase noticeably. The change of longitudinal sound velocity and attenuation as a function of temperature were given from 100 to 300K.The relationship between attenuation-temperature curve and intedece were discussed qualitatively.
