Erythema Nodosum, Febrile Arthropathy and Bilateral Hilar Lymphadenopathy

1985
Bilateral hilar lymph-node enlargement (BHL) is an important early manifestation of sarcoidosis. It is accompanied in a varying proportion of cases by erythema nodosum (EN). In populations in which chest radiography is a commonly-used screening procedure, the finding of symptomless BHL is one of the more frequent ways in which sarcoidosis is discovered; and except in endemic areas of infections, such as coccidioidomycosis, of which EN is a common feature, a high proportion of cases of EN, certainly of those accompanied by BHL, is attributable to sarcoidosis.
