A method of investigation and standardization of an oil extract fromSchizandra chinensis seed has been developed, which is based on the isolation of a lignan fraction (with the major content of schizandrol A) with a 20% aqueous ethanol solution and a spectrofotometric assay. Solutions used for the quantitative assay are concentrated and then used for TLC (qualitative analysis). HPLC data showed that the concentration of lignan fraction (schizandrol A) amounts to 0.08 - 0.11%, which is close to that in a commercial tincture (near 0.09 %) and shows that the proposed oil extract can be used as a neurotonic stimulant in the same doses as the tincture.
