Multiple Drone Platform for Emergency Response Missions

2021
This chapter describes the SWIFTERS multiple drone platform for the utilization of UAVs in emergency response missions. The platform is monitoring through the command control module, the real-time state, and position of each of the connected unmanned aerial vehicle. The command control module could order UAVs to go in a particular location with a click-and-go function, to search an area for people, vehicles, or other important objects, identify them automatically, and provide a live feed through their respective sensors and payload. The SWIFTERS platform was designed to provide a modular, extendable, scalable, stable, and reliable infrastructure to address end users’ functional and nonfunctional requirements. In general, SWIFTERS project capitalizes on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarms to study, design, and test cooperation strategies that support the allocation of evacuation operations to UAVs in an intelligent way, with the goal of improving response efficiency and reducing evacuation time.
