Multiple Shoot Formation and Efficient Root Induction in Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.)

2009
The cotyledonary nodal segments of groundnut excised from aseptically grown seven-day-old seedlings were subjected to direct multiple shoot induction by using BAP in combination with NAA and KIN in combination with IAA. In all the phytohormonal combinations the explants were responded differently. The maximum percentage of response was observed in 10 mg L -1 of BAP followed by KIN. The frequency of shoot induction in the two-phytohormonal combinations revealed that BAP with NAA was better than KIN with IAA. All the shoots were rooted using IAA. But the maximum response reported in 5 mg L -1 associated with basal callus formation. The rooted plantlets were transferred to the field for further evaluation. The survival percentage was 55% to 65%.
