New constitutive equation, including grain coarsening effect, for superplastic ceramics

2001
AbstractSuperplastic behaviour in ceramics at high temperature is predicted in the present study by using a modified constitutive equation for superplasticity that incorporates the rate of grain growth. The equation explains the high speed deformation, ɛ · = 10-3 s-1, of an Al2O3-3TiC (wt-%) composite caused at elevated temperature (1600°C). The equation also provides an analysis of both variations in n value for 3Y–TZP and increased flow stress for liquid phase sintered SiC in the slow strain rate region, in which grain growth plays an important role. A new concept for developing superplastic ceramics is provided.
