Structure of Pristine Crystal Defects Revealed by AFM and Microtomography

In order to make the explosives less sensitive and less prone to accidents, it is necessary to determine which kinds of crystal defects are critical and need to be reduced. Advanced analysis techniques, microtomography and Atomic Force Microscope, give us the possibility to investigate the hot spots and reaction sites down to the crystal scale level. The result obtained could be used to provide a realistic description of the density distribution of hot spots.
