HUBUNGAN METODE PERSALINAN DENGAN ANGKA KEJADIAN ALERGI PADA BAYI

Background: The prevalence of allergic diseases has increased dramatically in the world, both in developed countries and developing countries, especially over the last two decades. Allergy is associated with many factors, one of them is delivery method. During vaginal delivery the baby is in contact with mother’s vagina and intestine flora normal which is important for bacterial colonization in infants. While in caesarean section, direct contact is not occur, so it can increase the risk of allergies, this is also appropriate with the hygiene hypothesis. Research about association between delivery method with the incidence of allergies in infants is required because the study of it is still very limited. Objective: Knowing the association between delivery method with the incidence of allergies in infants and determine the prevalence of allergy in infants which born by caesarean section and vaginal delivery. Methods: Analytic observational with prospective cohort for 3 months in 35 infants born by cesarean section and 35 infants born by vaginal delivery. Data taken from four Puskesmas and one hospital. The research instrument was a questionnaire that asked and followed up every month to subject’s parents. Results: 77.1% of infants born with caesarean section and 60.6% of infants born vaginally have allergic manifestations. p value is 0.140. Nutrition were identified as confounding variable. Consclusion: There was no significant association between the delivery method with the incidence of allergy in infants (RR 1.273, CI95% from 0.916 to 1.769)
