Schisandra chinensis 五味子(Wuweizi, Chinese Magnoliavine)

is a plant native to northeast Asia that is cultivated in South Korea and China. The fruit of S. has been used in traditional medicine, in beverages, tea, wine, and cosmetics [1, 2]. It has been used as an important component in various prescriptions in East Asia [3, 4, 5, 6]. Its traditional effects are astringency of sweating, seminal emission, diarrhea and tranquillizing of the mind.
