Fate and Effects of Engineered Nanomaterials in Agricultural Systems

2021
Application of nanotechnology and its products is rapidly increasing in agriculture in order to maintain sustainable agri-food systems. As a smart and sustainable production system depends on the judicious applications of technology, this chapter attempts to examine nanomaterial interactions at multiple interfaces: nano-foliar/root surface interactions (uptake, transport, deposit, dissolution), and effects of NPs on agriculture (effects on crop health and production, effects on agricultural environment– farmland soil, waterbody). Elaborate, systematic design and tests are required to assure safety and efficacy of application of nanomaterials in agriculture.
