Synthesis and blood-compatibility of poly(ethylene-g-γ-benzyl-L-glutamate)

1991
A novel graft copolymer consisting of commercial chlorosulfonated polyethylene with γ-benzyl-L-glutamate grafted into sulfonyl groups was prepared. The Young's modulus and the yield stress of the copolymers increased with peptide content. The dynamic mechanical properties showed that the side chain mobility was increasing due to the incorporation of the peptide units. These affected the blood compatibility performance. The clotting time was about 51 minutes and the platelet adhesion performance was less than 5% as investigated by Coulter counter for two samples.
