Development and characterization of 17 polymorphic microsatellite loci in Octopus vulgaris Cuvier, 1797

17 polymorphic microsatellite loci were screened and characterized in Octopus vulgaris using a microsatellite enriched genomic library. The number of alleles per polymorphic microsatellite locus ranged from 3 to 17, and the observed and expected heterozygosities varied from 0.154 to 1.000 and from 0.214 to 0.925, respectively. These microsatellite loci will be useful for further studies on the population structure and genetic variation of this species.
