Relationship monocyte protein-1 between chemoattractant and restenosis after coronary angioplasty

2000
*P < 0.0001; **P = 0.007, #P < 0.0001 Moreover, MCP-1 levels were significantly correlated (P < 0.0001) with monocyte activity, measured as O~- production from healthy subjects monocytes incubated with serum of patients, both before and 24 hours after PTCA (p = 0.87 and p = 0.528, respectively). Conclusion: this study suggests that: a) MCP-1 may play a key role in the pathophysiology of restenosis after PTCA; b) this effect is mediated, at least in part, by an increased monocyte 02- production and consequent circulating vitamin C consumption.
