Conducting an Economic Impact Study for an International Archery Competition

2005
The purposes of this study were to point out the benefits of conducting an economic impact study prior to hosting a sporting event, to promote archery as a ”hallmark” sport, and to provide specific information about conducting an economic impact study for international archery events. Economic impact studies measure the economic benefits that accrue to a specific community as a result of the sports event. In the context of sporting events, the economic impact can be defined as the net economic change in the host community that results from the spending attributed to an event. This paper gives reasons for conducting economic impact studies, gives a taste of archery as an industry, provides an example of a survey instrument and the types of questions that are important in assessing how the event directly impacts the community, and details specific information on the logistics of conducting an economic impact study for an international archery competition.
