The effect of Sol-Gel technology on the metal-porcelain bond strength of new type Co-Cr ceramic and framework dental alloy

2006
Objective: To investigate the effect of Sol-Gel technology on the metal-porcelain bond strength of new type Co-Cr ceramic and framework dental alloy. Methods: Before applied for porcelain, a thin SiO2 and TiO2 ceramic film were coated on the metal specimens made from DA9-4 dental alloy respectively with Sol-Gel technology. The structure of the ceramic film were analyzed by X-ray diffraction. The pull-rod samples made from DA9-4 alloy and VMK95 porcelain were used for metal-porcelain bond strength measurement, and the metal-porcelain compounds were used for SEM observation and X-ray element energy analysis. Result: The bonding strength of metal-porcelain of experiment groups were higher than control group significantly(P 0.05). Conclusion: The Sol-Gel technology had a positive effect in improving the bonding strength of DA9-4 dental alloy and ceramic.
