Relationship Between Blood Hemoglobin and Triglyceride in Hypertriglyceridemia

2017
Hypertriglyceridemia is a key factor that may interfere with the measurement of hemoglobin (Hgb) using an automated hematology analyzer. This study aimed to determine the effect of high triglyceride value on the hemoglobin measurement. The total 194 samples were divided into two groups ≤ 150 mg/dL and > 150 mg/dL using SIEMENS, ADVIA 120 Model. The hemoglobin (HgbTotal) and calculated hemoglobin (HgbCal) were compared. The result found that the values of HgbTotal and HgbCal were not statistically different in the Tg ≤ 150 mg/dL group (r = 0.998, P > 0.05). In contrast, the values in the Tg > 150 mg/dL group were statistically different (r = 0.962, p < 0.05).The results indicated that high triglyceride level can cause blood turbidity and interfere with the Hgb results by hematology analyzer.
