Distributed generation and storage -- A new perspective
1995
Will DG (Distributed Generation) and DS (Distributed Storage) remain ``niche`` resources which currently cannot revolutionize power technology, or yield dramatic levels of a savings to either utility or customer? They look good when compared to traditional T and D technologies--not nearly so good when compared to modern T and D technologies. But even though savings possible with DG/DS are on the order of a few percent, these can be significant. This article, abstracted from a new book by ABB Systems Control, provides an overview of two newly revived concepts that have actually been around since the electrical industry began.
