Austenitic cast iron whose main phase in the range of ordinary temperature is austenite, characterized in that the basic elements comprising C: from 1 to 5 mass%; Si: 3 to 5% by mass; Ni: 7 to 15 mass%; Mn: 0.1 to 8 mass%; Cu: 2.5 mass% or less; and Cr: 0.5 to 4 mass%; and optionally trace selected from the group consisting of Mg, rare earths, Al, Ca, Ba, Bi, Sb, Sn, Ti, Zr, Mo, V, W, Nb, and N, in a proportion of 1% modifier elements in mass or less; the balance being iron (Fe) and unavoidable impurities.
