Unsymmetrical fluorinated β-diketones with bulky alkyl substituants react with SOC12 to form β-chlorovinyl ketones with Z configuration and the chlorine atom in the γ-position to the fluoroalkyl substituent.
2.
Fluorinated β-diketones with aromatic substituents undergo this reaction to give mixtures of isomeric β-chlorovinyl ketones with the chlorine atom in the a- or y-position to the fluoroalkyl substituent.
