Modeling of the Viscous Flow with a Free Surface inside a Rotating Horizontal Cylinder

2005
The flow of a high-viscosity liquid that partially fills a horizontal cylinder rotating at constant velocity is considered. A problem is mathematically formulated in the creeping-flow approximation and is numerically solved by the boundary-element method. Parametric studies of the kinematic and dynamic characteristics of the process as functions of control parameters are performed. Two flow patterns are revealed, and critical parameter values separating these patterns are found. Curves for the specific flow power as a function of the control parameters are obtained; these curves characterize the liquid dispersion intensity in the flow studied.
