Dependable Perception of Infrastructure-Based Automation

Automation in complex dynamic environments, such as are found in the domains of industrial or transport industries, demands for an infrastructure of collaborative sensing and compute nodes with a high level of dependability. The key challenge is to establish a dependable perception capability of dispersed sensor fields. We here outline a general approach that adopts the concept of quality of information as an assessment framework. Simulation studies of selected aspects are presented at the example of a roadside sensor infrastructure that generates dynamic maps to support automated driving.
