Experimental investigations of the internal friction in automotive bush chain drive systems

2019
Abstract In this paper the measurements of the internal chain friction of a bush chain for various engine parameters are studied with a focus on petrol engines and the influence of engine oil. Due to the combustion of a petrol engine, the engine oil contains numerous particles and chemical bonds that have a significant impact on the internal chain friction. In order to measure the internal chain friction an experimental set-up has been developed excluding the influence of guide rails. The measurements of the internal chain friction at specific working points with different used engine oils allow an estimation of the time-dependent friction coefficients for modern automotive bush chain drive systems.
