Frequency Characteristics of the Helmholtz-type Valveless Self-excited Pulse Combustor

2010
The frequency characteristics of the Helmholtz-type valveless self-excited pulse combustor with continuous supply of gas and air were investigated in this paper.A zero-dimensional theoretical model was established. The effects of the combustor construction and heat transfer of tailpipe on the operating characteristics were considered. On the basis of the mathematical model, the frequency of operation for the pulse combustor was derived. The effects of the excess air ratio, tailpipe length and heat load on the frequency of operation were studied by the experiment. The results show that the frequency of operation decreases with the increase of excess air ratio and tailpipe length, and increases with heat load. The experimental results are in substantial agreement with the theoretical frequency of operation, which verifies the correctness of the theoretical analysis.
