The Integra-Model Service: enabling the simulation of multiple epidemiological models and scenarios on the grid

2009
The IntegraModel service is part of IntegraEPI which is a large-scale system for space-time visualization, monitoring, modeling and analysis of epidemic data using a Grid platform. This system is capable to provide the integration of heterogeneous databases related to epidemic analysis and to make available analytical and computational methods to increase the predicting capability of the public health system, in order to optimize its activities and resources when dealing with epidemic outbreak and prevention. The Integra-Model system is composed of two classes of elements: the model simulators, which implement specific infectious disease behaviors, and the Integra-Model service, a simulation service capable to receive simulation requests from IntegraModel client applications. The service was first implemented to run within the GT4 middleware. This paper describes the strategy to adapt the Integra-Model service to the EELA-2 infrastructure.
