Application of clopidogrel in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation

Objective To observe the effects and prognosis of using aspirin and clopidogrel in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation. Methods One hundred and sixty cases of elderly patients with permanent atrial fibrillation were randomly divided into two groups, aspirin group(n=80) received aspirin, clopidogrel group(n=80) received clopidogrel treatment.Results Aspirin group compared with clopidogrel, gastrointestinal bleeding occurred a few more, there were significant difference between the two groups(χ2=17.32, P 0.05). Conclusions In elderly patients with atrial fibrillation, the effect of aspirin and clopidogrel for stroke prevention is the same, but clopidogrel significantly reduced the incidence of gastrointestinal bleeding in elderly patients,and can reduce complication.
