The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling the power consumption of an electronic device, wherein, the method comprises the following steps: acquiring licensed application ability parameters of the electronic device; determining the maximum working efficiency allowed by the electronic device according to the licensed application ability parameters; and limiting the working efficiency of electronic device hardware to the range of the allowed maximum working efficiency. Since the embodiment of the invention limits the consumption of worthless power of the electronic device by controlling the working power of hardware in the electronic device, the power consumption of the electronic device can be effectively reduced. Furthermore, the licensed application ability parameters during the process of controlling the power consumption are considered, so that the normal operation of the electronic device is ensured during the process of controlling the power consumption.
