Study of the zones of damage caused by fission fragments of heavy nuclei

This study i s based on the well-known anomalous fall in the evaporation rate of thin sources containing the isotope Cm244. The anomaly is apparently due to local surface damage induced by fission fragments . The mean diameter of the local damage zones depends on the pressure of the medium containing the source; it lies between 0.1 and 1 μ.
