Efeitos da Qualidade da Governança Pública no Sentimento de Confiança da População em Países da América Latina

2018
The aim of the present study is to verify the effect of the quality of public governance on the feeling of confidence of the population in the governmental institutions of Latin American countries. The analysis comprises a period of 19 years (1996 - 2014) for a scenario of seven countries. The main results show that the better the quality of public governance, greater the public confidence in government institutions tends to be, although at a frequency of 0 to 100% the level of trust in institutions such as the armed forces, the police, judiciary, political parties, parliament and national government, does not exceed 50% for most cases. These findings generally provide support for strengthening the confidence of citizens and, in particular, public institutions in those countries. Indeed, public confidence can be improved when governments, among other government institutions, are able to provide goods and services that raise the level of social welfare of those.
