Dynamic Topology Reconfiguration for Energy Efficient Network with Link Power Control: MiDORi

2012
To improve the energy efficiency of networks, power consumption should be proportional to the utilization of the network. We have proposed a concept which conducts traffic engineering in order to dynamically aggregate traffic on par- ticular links and turn off unused links. This paper shows the demonstration results of the link power management by energy efficient network topology design with prototype Gigabit layer-2 switches. In the result, power consumption adaptively changed according to amount of traffic, and when traffic load is low, it can reduce of 23.8% of energy at maximum.
