Method for producing xylan-containing material

The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method for extracting xylan from a wood material easily and collecting the extracted xylan efficiently. A xylan-containing material can be produced by a method comprising the steps of: (a) adding an acid and/or carbon dioxide to black liquor that is discharged during a soda cooking process of wood chips containing those of a broad-leaved tree to adjust the pH value of the black liquor to 1 to 9, thereby producing a suspension; (b) dehydrating and washing insoluble matters generated in the suspension and collecting the insoluble matters; and (c) adding an organic solvent to the insoluble matters obtained in step (b) to produce a suspension, and then collecting a xylan-containing material, which is an insoluble mater in the suspension, by a solid-liquid separation procedure.
