Thermal protection of a wall by means of gas films, generated by water-cooling finned upstream sections of the wall

The velocity and temperature profiles in a turbulent layer on an adiabatic wall downstream of cooling sections with longitudinal fins were measured. The heat flux to the cooling section and the temperature distribution along the adiabatic wall were also recorded. The experimental data are compared with the numerical solutions of the two-dimensional momentum and energy equations for a turbulent boundary layer. Kovasznyi-Sekundov's model for the turbulent viscosity was used. Good agreement is noted.
