Two cases of salivary fistula

1989
This report describes two cases of salivary fistula of the submandibular gland. Case 1. A patient, 76-year-old female, was referred to our hospital in October, 1986, because of swelling of the right submandibular region. Pus discharge was observed from the orifice of the right submandibular gland. The occlusal view of intraoral radiography showed a submandibular calculus (Fig. 1). Sialography of the right submandibular gland revealed a sialolith in the posterior part of Wharton's duct. The contrast medium did not fill the distal portion of the sialolith and leaked out in oral cavity (Fig. 2, Fig. 3). The diagnosis was an internal fistula of the right submandibular gland resulting from infection due to sialolith. Case 2. A 52-year-old female came to our hospital in September, 1988 complaining of pus discharge from a fistula of the left submandibular region. Extraoral surgery was performed at another hospital two months Fig. 1
