Estudio de la integración de repositorios en el sistema científico-investigador: alternativas y estado actual

2015
At present, the lack of acceptance of academic research repositories represents one of the main challenges of these systems. Even when deposit is made mandatory, repositories are perceived as isolated niches in the scientific research system. To change that perception, requires redesigning the concept of repository to achieve better integration with the tools and processes used by researchers, tailoring the repositories to the needs, and working methods of the scholarly community. Thus, repositories may be accepted and considered as tools that add value in the short and medium term to the research community. The challenge, as can be seen, is simply to make them tools integrated on the communication of scientific and academic production. In the first part, we study the variety of approaches, technologies and procedures that can be used to achieve such integration. Belonging to these research ecosystem that can be integrated with repositories, we can mention National and International harvesters infrastructures, Current Research Information Systems, Library Management Systems, Unique Researcher Identifiers systems , bibliographic references managers and altmetrics and impact metrics, among others. In the second part of the study, we conducted a quantitative analysis of the presence of these integrations in Spanish research university repositories. The front-office study has focused, in measuring a subset of the existing integrations, that we could define as visible or external, given the difficulties associated with observing internal processes, such as integrations with LMS or CRIS.
